About Lowcarb

What is Lowcarb?

There are 3 Macronutrients (plus water) and numerous Micronutrients (Vitamins & Minerals). The 3 Macronutrients are Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats.  Lowcarb in its simple terms is minimizing / avoiding most foods those are high in carbohydrates and at the same times increasing the consumption of food rich in Proteins and fats, i.e. fatty-protein foods. The carbohydrates to minimize are fast absorbing or simple-carbohydrates which get digested quickly and thus spikes blood glucose and also increase insulin levels. Contrary to this the complex or slow absorbing carbs are digested slowly and does not spike up blood glucose levels owing to their fibrous & other peculiar structures.

We already have been consuming / knowing these foods, however may not necessarily know the categories they fall into. For example a few fast absorbing or simple carbs are :

  • Sugars in all forms
  • All refined floors, grains
  • Most Fruits & dried fruits
  • Refined and ultra processed foods

The example of complex /slow absorbing carbs : Green leafy vegetables, some nuts & seeds, some millets & beans in small proportions.

The examples of fattyprotein foods are : Dairy products like Paneer, curd, eggs, poultry, meat, fish etc. which is to be consumed in larger proportions.

Why lowcarb?

While India has made immense progress on economy, technology and other front, India is also referred as the Diabetic capital of the world. And why just India, world-over, there’s mammoth increase in people who are Diabetic and or obese. Also in the recent times of COVID19 pandemic it’s been understood that comorbid population is at higher risk of virus infections and complications thereof. Comorbid is having number of metabolic syndromes or metsyns like Obesity, Diabetes, Hypertension, PCOD, deranged thyroid / LIPID functions etc. Insulin Resistance is the key reason for metsyns.

Key reason to develop Insulin resistance is excess intake of carbohydrates in our diet. At times it’s further coupled with hours of inactivity, elevated stress levels, sleep deprivation – in simple terms our overall lifestyle. However consuming too much of carbohydrates and / or too frequently can lead to a condition of being Insulin Resistive and which can further lead to metsyns, which means being dependent on number of medicines for lifelong with at times further worsening conditions.  So the goal for all of us is to move from Insulin resistive to Insulin Sensitive an remain like that for rest of the lifespan to keep metsyns at bay.

Why eatRightMonk Programs?

The eatRightMonk programs are focused on improving metabolic health, i.e. to tranform from being Insulin Resistive to being Insulin Sensitive. And we achieve this leveraging lowcarb dietary approach.
